Its virtues were noted in the Middle Ages: highly tolerated in the case of skin problems, it is a hypoallergenic and antibacterial textile fibre. Linen is suitable for people with sensitive skin or dermatological problems. Unlike other fabrics, linen fibres retain almost no allergenic elements. The texture of linen works to prevent bacteria from attaching to it.
Linen is better than other fibres when it comes to thermoregulation. It keeps you warm in winter and cool in summer. It has better ventilation and regulation. It lets air and water vapour, i.e. perspiration, through. It also has the capacity to absorb water vapour and release it into the atmosphere, thus keeping it away from the skin. Flax would therefore have advantages on sleep: it seems that we wake up less at night according to the cycles of our body temperature which varies. Flax keeps an optimal temperature. We fall asleep faster and enjoy a more restful sleep.
Linen is a natural material. It does not need to be watered, rain is enough. Flax is not very energetic and does not need fertiliser or pesticides. The plant is transformed into yarn using natural, non-chemical processes (retting and scutching).
Our flax is grown and manufactured in Europe. It grows on a wide coastal strip stretching from the south of Normandy to the north of France, from Belgium to the Netherlands.
